Watsup! It's me Cassel, the lead developer of Ratropolis.

This time, I improved the tutorial and created an opening video shows on the game launch.

- Improved Tutorial

Usually developers add tutorials at the end of game development.

Ratropolis had to demonstrate in the middle of development, so the tutorial was added quickly.

The early version tutorial was poor.

< Early version tutorial implemented around September 2018 >

We've made improvements in a more user-friendly way, with every change.

Since 2018, there have been no demonstrations, and the tutorial has stalled.

So we took this time to review and improve the tutorial.

We've added six new tutorials to help players learn how to use merchants, loot, buildings, etc.

Tutorial shows triggers when a situation occurs.

However, exception handling is not perfect when multiple situations occur simultaneously. Sobbing.

I also corrected some of the violations of the game's common rules.

If your defenses are destroyed, you will use the Defense Cards on the destroyed wall to repair them.

This was different from other buildings that could be repaired by pressing the repair button on the destroyed building.

Previously, the above change was made due to the difficulty in dealing with an attack during the repair of the line.

It compromised the uniformity of the game rules.

I had to explain differently how to repair the line and the building,

It made the game more complicated.

So I changed it again by pressing the defensive button to repair it.

This allows the defense card to focus more on expanding the territory.

Fixing the broken line of defense does not require a card anymore.

< Fix it...and Done! >

It would be nice to add more animation to the repair.

As events and stories are added to the game,

We needed to communicate the worldview of the game to the player.

It is most efficient to deliver it as an opening video.

The film was created with a reference on the opening videos of 'Darkist Dungeon' and 'Throne Breaker'.

First of all, I started working on the script.

Based on the synopsis of the Ratropolis, which was written in the past,

5 scenes were written.

“91 days have passed since Ratropolis collapsed due to experiment.

After the terrible event, survivors wandered around to find the new settlement.

Finally, they were able to find the world tree and make a new settlement.

Most rats, tired of their long wandering lives, gave up their lives of order and discipline and returned to the wild.

As soon as the settlement began to grow, the test specimens of Ratropolis began to appear near it.

The rats decided to follow your intelligence for survival.

"Protect your city from enemies and build a new Ratropolis!"

When we finished the dialogues, we found reference images that matches dialogues

We have implemented simple renderings using Unity animation tool.

< Initial opening images >

After that, we added graphic resources, effects, and effects.

We made vivid images using natural objects such as sunlight, fallen leaves, rain and sand.

< Finished opening >

Sound and voice were added. After several modifications, the current opening was finished.

The opening was so short that it was difficult to find a suitable background sound.

It had to be somewhat in harmony with the title background.

Because the title appears right after the opening.

After some hard work, I was able to find and edit a nice background sound and sync it up.…

I felt the need of a sound designer as soon as possible.

The voice will be outsourced to the voice actor in English.

I put the dialogue in the media temporarily, and I was very satisfied.

But to do that, I first needed a script that was translated into English.

Also, the context and script should not be awkward for locals to hear.

So I went around foreign sites with my initial translations and asked for feedback and correction.

Thankfully, one person helped me a lot.

< A feedback comment on Reddit >

All that remains is to outsourced the recording, but we're taking some time to do it.

If you have any improvements or feedback in the opening, please leave a comment.

I will take your comments into consideration.

For the time being, we will continue to refine the game while fixing and supplementing the minor details.
